    Don't Tell Me
    What are you doing?
    Tell Me now
I know that you feel you're running down somehow
    What are you saying?
    Where will you go?
    Where are you staying?
    How will you know?
I never believed in what you seek
    So what are you thinking?
    Come on tell me
I knew what you had right from the start
So don't tell me you've had a change of heart
Don't tell me it was all a mistake
Don't tell me you didn't know what it takes
Don't tell me you were all alone
Don't tell me you had never known
    Don't tell me
    I don't want to know
Don't tell me which way to go

    You know what you want
    You have a plan
But how you survive I don't understand
    It's in your eyes
    Written on your face
Every step you take is very carefully placed
Anyone else who's gotten in your way
Has been pushed aside - you've blown them all away
This time the plan didn't work for you
Now that I've caught you - what will you do?
Don't tell me it was all a mistake
Don't tell me you didn't know what it takes
Don't tell me you were all alone
Don't tell me you had never known
    Don't tell me
    I don't want to know
Don't tell me which way to go

    A Secret Never Told

You're a secret never to be told

You're a story waiting to unfold

You're an impact about to explode

and you're a message that we've got to decode

You're hiding somewhere in the night

Someone told me you're looking for a fight

You feel useless in your unending plight

Your emotion you keep locked up oh so tight

    I'm a little less understanding

When it comes to people like you

You can't hide your feelings too long

But I'll help you make it through

    Don't hide your love inside

    Let your true self preside

    Make it warm outside

    Don't hide your love inside

You know I love you no matter what you've done

I won't deny you because we've had so much fun

But you can't deceive me with all your tricks and ways

God knows I've been there but I made it through to maze

    I've got a message - a secret never told

No matter what the odds are you've got to be bold

And now I see you laughing once again

It's nice to know that you're still my best friend

I'm a little more understanding when you finally made it through

You couldn't hide your feelings too long and you won your battle too

    Don't hide your love inside

    Let your true self preside

    Make it warm outside

    Don't hide your love inside

    Dance Girl Dance (Remix)
    (verse 1)
Browse to the Tube for something to see
There's a girl dancing 'round so blissfully
Inspiring to watch and stirring to see
'Cause the girl on the screen lives next to me
High and low all up in your room
I think I could learn to love you too
If this was real only time will tell
You might just have something to sell
    (chorus)
    Dance Girl Dance
    Dance Girl Dance (they say)
    Dance Girl Dance
    Dance Girl Dance
    (verse 2)
Time goes by for the leading light
But they ask you to hide it away
    To idolize or fraternize
They seem to think you've misbehaved
The star that was born is the object of scorn
    In every conceivable way
    In someone's eyes you're a fantasy
And it intrudes on your night and day
    (chorus)
    Dance Girl Dance
    Dance Girl Dance (they say)
    Dance Girl Dance
    Dance Girl Dance
    Dance Girl Dance
    Dance Girl Dance (they say)
    Dance Girl Dance
Dance Girl Dance (dance girl dance)
    (finale)
High and low all up in your room
I think I could learn to love you too
If this was real only time will tell
You might just have something to sell

    Back to Detroit
    (chorus)
uh-oh, I'm going back to Detroit
uh-oh, what you gonna do tonight
uh-oh, I'm going back to Detroit
    (v1)
    Greektown, Wormwood, Renaissance Center
Grand Circus Station, what could be better?
    Drive across world-famous Ambassador Bridge
    Kaline, Trammel, Horton and Lou
Miggy and Maggs say, "I can hit too"
He stood there like the house by the side of the road
    (repeat chorus)
    (v2)
See a show at the Fox or maybe the Fillmore
Hear Kid Rock, yeah we can do more
    Mo-Mo-Motown greats at Hitsville USA
Yeah the city's coming back, it's here to stay
    10 Mile, 9 Mile, 8 Mile hey!
Throw another octopus down at the Joe
    (repeat chorus)
I feel like I've been here before
    (bridge)
    Pistons, Lions, Tigers and Wings
Aretha and Marvin make to sing
    Woodward, Michigan and Trumbull
    Community spirit never will crumble
    Sparky, Gordie, Lidström and Ty
Fill our hearts with unquenchable pride
    Henry's horseless automobile
Never could a place be so ideal
    (repeat chorus)
    uh-oh, Welcome back to Detroit
uh-oh, I know where I will stay tonight
uh-oh, I feel like I've been here before
    (repeat chorus)

    Made for Radio
What did they do back in the day
When there was no movement on a screen?
No way to tell if they're fat or lean
or green or purple, brown, or gray
I thought that words were good enough
Now if you can't dance or flash the skin
If you think there's no need for that stuff
You're digging the grave I'm in

    Radio, Radio
This song was made for you
    Radio, Radio
This song was made for you
    Radio, Radio
This song was made for you
    Radio, Radio
    do-do-do-do-do

Can't write the songs the whole world sings
No, because lyrics aren't censored out
They should be fun and jump like Trout
And cost a million yen cha-ching
Notes and words should be good enough
Like Kenny be footloose and free
No need for all that extra fluff
    Just a catchy melody

    Radio, Radio
This song was made for you
    Radio, Radio
This song was made for you
    Radio, Radio
This song was made for you
    Radio, Radio
I'd live and die for you

    Maybe I can
If I get some help from you
If someone believes the same thing so true

NOTES
"A Secret Never Told" was a project started to capture the vibes of the energetic 1980's style of music in a family-friendly environment. After releasing all of these songs (except the title track) as singles, it was finally decided to compile them into a compact disc format. Several have appeared on local radio as backgrounds to advertisements, and "Back To Detroit" was heard prior to radio broadcasts of baseball games.
